I do not need approval

Ever since January and I read a blog about an Ex-wife writing a letter to the new Step-mom, so many questions began to filter through me as I looked at my own family situation:

  • Would I want that sort of letter from Alex’s Ex?
  • Would I want to give that sort of letter to my Ex’s new partner?
  • Is it necessary?

I hit a nerve with a post last week. These words resonated with more people than anything else I have ever posted..it reached almost 4000 people with 59 shares.

How come? What was it about this quote that touched people?

Still Beautiful

still beautiful

As I get older, I have noticed that I need to be more kind and gentle to myself, especially toward my body. I made be small and petite, but I am not as comfortable in my skin as I used to be. Yes, I am a mom and weight shifts as we get older, but when did my belly begin to look like ribbon candy at Christmas?

Invisible Vampires

vampire

Invisible vampires walk among us, undetected to the naked eye,  yet they create chaos in our lives to get their own way. I know you have one or two in your life: they are the people who make you feel depleted and deflated after one interaction.

fit the mold copy

I was reminded the other day of once  being told that I couldn’t be molded into the perfect Turkish girl. That was the word used: molded. As much as I tried to do everything right, I wasn’t able to able to be the perfect Turkish girl because I couldn’t even fill the mold by not being entirely Turkish. My “American-ness” kept coming un-tucked, no matter how often I tried to tuck that back in.

The Year we almost canceled Christmas

ornaments

It’s been  exactly 4 years since Mina’s dad moved out and we had just filed for divorce. Instead of getting the house filled up with holiday trimmings and and presents, it was slowly being emptied out bit by bit as Mina’s dad slowly moved his stuff out of the house at night after Mina and I went to sleep.

The house filled in the empty spaces with stress and tension.

Finding Comfort in an Unmade bed

unmade bed

It’s official..I hit the wall of exhaustion from all the hustle and the bustle of the holiday. It came on rather quietly and I simply said “I’m Done.”

…and then I went back to bed.
